The COVID19 pandemic has affected people around the world in unexpected and unprecedented ways. It has left many citizens, temporary and long-term residents, and members of our community food insecure and in need of food assistance.
SACU wants African community members to know that there is help for individuals and families in need. Some may not know where to go for help while some may have reservations about getting assistance and are instead suffering in silence, feeling shame or fearing stigma associated with accessing such services. We want to emphasize and remind all community members that one should never be stigmatized or feel embarrassed for taking care of their health and family’s well-being, especially during a challenging pandemic.
SACU is here to help. We want you, and all community members, to know about resources available to Southern Africans. We are working with Manna Food Center (Manna), a free food service in Montgomery County with a vision to ensure communities always have access to safe, sufficient, nutritious food.
Our joint goal is to be culturally sensitive as we inform people about Manna services, eligibility for assistance, and encourage people to reach out.
