Did you miss out? If you weren’t at the SACU reunion picnic this year, the answer is “yes you did!” This year’s SACU Picnic was a huge success, with over 400 people in attendance!

Saturday morning started out with threatening clouds but remarkably pleasant weather arrived just in time for the reunion picnic. Temperatures remained in the lower 70’s to upper 80’s to all day and there was a nice breeze that keep the sun from making everyone uncomfortable.

At 12:30pm the first round of soccer matches kicked off.  The steaks and chicken were on the fire some being marinated for the noon feast. By 1pm over a hundred people had arrived to partake of the feasts and entertainment and Valley Mill Park was alive with excitement as we gathered.

By 2pm most people had settled down to enjoy their BBQ whilst enjoying the second game of soccer. At 3pm the highlight of the picnic was underway on the Netball field with team Namibia playing against team Zimbabwe. The future of the SACU netball tournament looked very promising considering that the ladies had not played the game in years but still they played a wonderful game. The game was goal for goal all match and the ladies gave their all. The game ended with a draw. The ladies had a great time and enjoyed themselves immensely. The Rege Chorwira Memorial Netball Trophy was shared by Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The teams that played soccer this year included teams from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa and Tanzania and Angola. The final soccer match was played at 6PM between the reigning champions Team Malawi vs Team Zimbabwe. Malawi once again walked away with the winning trophy that was sponsored by Mahama Shipping Company.

For those that missed out, you get to redeem yourself next year at the 2015 Reunion Weekend!
