SOUTHERN AFRICAN COMMUNITY USA TO SOUTHERN AFRICAN FESTIVAL!

SACU will host its first festival dedicated to southern Africa.

Southern African Community USA (SACU) will be hosting its first southern African festival dubbed “Ubuntu Festival” in celebration of the organization’s five-year anniversary. The event will be held on Sunday, May 20th Washington D.C. Metro area.

The Southern African festival provides an opportunity for Southern Africans and friends of Southern Africa to come together to network, meet, and celebrate Southern African heritage and culture. The event also serves to commemorate both Africa Day which is celebrated on May 25th worldwide and Africa month events which are held throughout the month of May internationally.

The day will kick off on with food, fashion and art & craft vendors who will be present throughout the festival. It will also include activities and entertainment through the day. This includes a fashion show featuring designers from Southern Africa and the Diaspora showcasing their original designs under the theme, “Experience Southern Africa!”. It also includes talent from Southern Africa who will entertain the crowd with lively interactive performances. Lastly, the event will end with a block party in true Southern African style.  It promises to be a day full of fun for the whole family.

The festivities will be held outdoors at Veterans Plaza in the heart of Silver Spring, Maryland which makes the event easily accessible to all in the DMV area.

The reunion weekend is slated to be the largest festival celebrating all of southern Africa in the United States this year and large crowds are expected.
