Southern African Reunion
Southern African Reunion is a weekend that brings Southern Africans together to celebrate our shared heritage. Near the U.S. Labor Day Weekend in September, SACU hosts a series of activities that highlight and promote Southern African culture. These activities vary each year and may include a Fashion Show and Entertainment, a Sports Tournament (soccer, netball, volleyball) and Braai (BBQ) & Picnic, Business Networking, and other community‑focused events.

The Ubuntu Festival is an award‑winning celebration of Southern African culture in the heart of downtown Silver Spring. The festival brings hundreds of people together in the spirit of ubuntu — “I am because we are”. The festival transforms downtown Silver Spring into a vibrant street celebration filled with Southern African music, food, art, storytelling, and shared community experiences. Crowds gather to enjoy dance workshops, live performances, fashion showcases, vendors, and interactive cultural activities led by artists from across the United States and directly from Southern Africa. The festival also features booths from Southern African embassies, businesses, and artisans, creating a dynamic space where culture, creativity, and community pride come alive.

Southern African Business Expo
SACU’s business programming strengthens entrepreneurship, professional growth, and economic collaboration within the Southern African diaspora. Our flagship event, the Southern African Business Expo (SABE), brings together business owners, innovators, and community leaders to showcase their ventures, share expertise, and build meaningful partnerships. SABE creates a visible platform where Southern African entrepreneurs, small business owners, and self-employed professionals can highlight their products, services, and ideas while connecting with potential clients, collaborators, and investors from Southern Africa.

Southern African Fashion Show
SACU’s fashion shows have become one of our most vibrant and anticipated cultural events—an exciting showcase of Southern African creativity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit. Each show brings together local designers in the DMV and designers from across the African continent, giving them a platform to present their work, share their artistic vision, and connect with new audiences.
Our runway features Southern African models proudly walking the catwalk in Southern African style, highlighting traditional influences, modern interpretations, and the rich diversity of fashion from the region. From bold prints and handcrafted textiles to contemporary designs inspired by heritage, the show celebrates the beauty and innovation of Southern African fashion.


Social Networking & Meetups
SACU’s networking events bring Southern Africans and friends of the region together to build connections, share opportunities, and strengthen our community in the DMV. These gatherings bring Southern Africans together in a relaxed, welcoming environment where community comes first. They give people a chance to connect, share stories, and build friendships with others who understand the culture, humor, and everyday experiences of Southern African life in the United States.
Whether held at local parks, cafés, restaurants, dance clubs, cultural centers, or other community spaces, our meet‑ups create a warm atmosphere where newcomers and long‑time residents can connect or reconnect. People come to socialize, exchange ideas, learn about SACU programs, or simply enjoy being around others from the region
