How We Build Community

Community is at the heart of what we do. SACU creates welcoming spaces where Southern Africans and friends of the region can build lasting relationships, strengthen community ties, and celebrate shared experiences. Through gatherings, cultural exchanges, and collaborative activities, we foster a sense of belonging that helps our diaspora stay connected, supported, and empowered. Our community building efforts ensure that every person feels seen, valued, and part of a vibrant Southern African family here in the United States.

We organize a variety of social events throughout the year—including picnics, dinners, networking meetups, and sporting activities—to bring Southern Africans together to connect, relax, and build community. Some of our notable past events include social networking gatherings at places such as Nando’s and Little Kampala restaurants. We have also hosted sporting events, both as standalone tournaments and as part of larger celebrations like the Southern African Reunion Weekend. Many of our events rely on a dedicated network of volunteers whose contributions strengthen our community and help create lasting friendships.
